Next will follows a picture of the Martin submission. Nico (from AAHS Journal, Volume 44 Number 1 -Spring 1999) L-129: This design study was done in mid-1941, shortly before America entered World War II. It was basically a series of long-range bomber designs, so constructed that they could be easily converted into commercial airiiners. Aithough L-129 was its official TDN, this effort was also called Lockheed "X" with subtitles of Model l, 1A, 2, 3 and C-1 (the only commercial version). In appearance, all the L- 1 29s were similar to previous Lockheed transports with only a variation to a single vertical tail in some of the designs. With Tornodo engines the typical bomber version, at a 52,000 pound GTOW, would have had a maximum speed = 363 mph, range = 3000 miles, landing spoed = 80 mph, takeoff distance = 2295 feet. The Model C-1 commercial version was to carry up to 36 passengers about 1380 miles with similar performance numbers at a slightly less GTOW of 44,000 pounds. No L-129 of any tupe was to reach production.
